Character Name: Shyvana
Character Canon: League of Legends
History: A Dragon's Fury
Born to a simple farm girl and a dragon, Shyvana was raised in a quiet farm with her mother. However, her mixed blood made her a target for humans and dragonkind alike and she was still young when her mother was killed by a drake who despised her kind. She then spent time on the run with her father, constantly moving around and hiding and escaping the drake -- a life that only bred hatred and a savageness within her. Unfortunately, her father was defeated by the same foe that killed her mother, but at the same time leaving a mortal wound on the enemy.
She was suddenly lost without the guidance of her father and filled with grief, she mindlessly chased her family's murderer towards the north of the continent where she bumped into a group of humans who happened to be tracking the same drake. The leader of the group happened to be the crown prince of a nearby city-state, Jarvan IV of Demacia. The prince offered aid to her, giving his men to help her defeat the drake.
They eventually caught up to the drake they were both after and in a tireless fight, they emerged victorious. Humans were redeemed in her eyes, ever so slightly, as she did not expect them to be so sturdy. Instead of returning to a life of her own, she was offered a job by Jarvan IV as part of the royal guard. Shyvana accepted and went back to Demacia to serve the city, as a thanks for the help they gave in getting her revenge, and also out of curiosity to see what more these humans were capable of.
AU History: Shyvana was born to a forbidden bond between enemy Garchomp tribes. The result was a young girl who was torn between two, and although she had originally lived with her mother, she was outcast by the rest of the tribe and eventually the mysterious death of her mother led to her being exiled, where she escaped to her father for help.
However, the other tribe was not forgiving either and having no reason to stay with hatred at every corner, Shyvana and her father fled into hiding. It was going well enough until a Garchomp from her mother's tribe tracked them down and tried to finish Shyvana off -- they managed to get away, but from then on they had to keep moving to escape death. She grew spiteful and turned her fear into anger, making her aggressive and savage even for a Gabite. Somewhere along the journey, Shyvana had awakened her shifter abilities, allowing her to transform into a human -- and also allowing for an easier disguise for when they were travelling.
One day, they were caught by surprise and her father tried his hardest to fight off the dragon but even though he inflicted a mortal wound, he was ultimately defeated. Stricken with grief and resentment, Shyvana immediately went to chase the Garchomp. She happened upon some humans on the way, who offered her aid to track down the dragon. The Garchomp had previously terrorised the humans' walls and threatened their safety so they were also out for his blood. Together they avenged her father and while she was given the choice to return to the wild, Shyvana was intrigued by the human ways and decided to learn more about them and their strengths. She followed them back in the hopes of joining the Swords of the Savior. This would be a chance to pay back the humans who helped her, and test the limits of her strength.
Canon Personality: Shyvana is not one for talking. Her upbringing meant she had no one but her father to talk to, and once he was gone she had no one. Thus, her conversational skills are weak and she can be sharp tongued and impatient when trying to get her point across. She tends to be blunt and oblivious to things like sarcasm and intrapersonal skills that most people learn just by growing up around others.
She also has a lonely nature and is happy to spend her time on her own, although, since coming to Demaica she has learned to spend time with company despite not contributing much. She doesn't mind people in general but is easily riled up by people who annoy her by continuously using phrases and slang that confuses her.
Unfortunately, having lived most of her life with the scorn of people who hate her impure blood she has little confidence in her duality when it comes to forms. She envies the champions who can change between their forms so easily and confidently. She's learned to put on a facade of confidence when on the battlefield, which helps her become more comfortable with herself. Faking it is almost as good as being it for her.
Her overall confidence is not magnificent either, but when she is on the job she mutters motivational phrases to help pump herself up ("I go", "They are nothing before me") and sometimes when working with people, the occasional joke to lighten up the mood even though they are really lame and usually bad puns.
Living in the city of Justice and Righteousness, she holds these values close to her heart. Shyvana strives to become just and honourable, but sometimes falls victim to her own hotheadedness. She's quick to jump to conclusions and start a fight if she thinks that would solve the situation (i.e., shutting the other person up or exerting her dominance.) A proud dragon, she works to preserve a reputation of both power and a patriot to her city, even though she may get into the occasional bar fight and huff off angrily when losing an argument.
On the battlefield, she can be ruthless and soaks up damage easily being a dragon who has bonus magic resist and armour. She is a strong initiator for team battles, and usually stands in the middle to protect the rest of her team from deadly skills which would kill the less tanky members of her team. Not only does she soak up damage, but she also has area of effect damage on a skill which constantly damages the enemy teams, making her formidable in a fight should she be ahead. Her attacks may not be graceful but they are devastating and brutal at melee range.
POST APP;
Since coming to the Union, she has learned more of the other people who lived in it and it has piqued her interest in things which was not revenge, or honourable. Work was formulaic, and she rose the rank easily with the skills she had learned from being constantly on guard. However, the people in the Union had surprised her with their generosity and habits. Shyvana became friends with the locals (and somehow, some nobles), met new companions in the form of pokemon she had met and most importantly learned to have... fun.
Back with her father, she used to travel the lands but there was never time to take in her surroundings, no time to enjoy the world around her. So, she and left the union to explore the woods and beyond. There, Shyvana spent a lot of time walking, looking around, meeting wild pokemon. Although there was so much to the world, Shyvana found herself rather missing the company of the people who she met at the Union, and although her pokemon were plenty company, she felt a lot more homesick than her pride would allow to admit. So, after meandering aimlessly, avoiding large cities, she starts to make her way back into the Union.
AU Deviation: Her AU canon is not significantly different to her upbringing, but most of the strife has stemmed from the conflict between her tribes rather than her "impure" blood. As such, she has much more confidence than her canon self and is happier with her different forms -- especially in her pokemon form as it is the one she grew up in. This doesn't make her any less of a dork when it comes to the battlefield, however, and she still finds motivational sayings helpful to her job.
Her sense of righteousness and justice as a result isn't so strong either, but she still feels the need to strive towards that image, even if it is not as prominent as her canon.
Having no prince to owe her thanks to, she instead owes it to the Union who had helped her defeat her father.
Canon Abilities: I smell fear
Shyvana has the power to transform into a dragon once her rage meter (used instead of mana) reaches 100, which determines how long she stays in dragon form for.
Her passive grants her bonus magic resist and armour, and doubles when in dragon form.
Twin Bite: Allows her next auto attack to deal bonus physical damage, which scales with her overall attack damage. In dragon form, it strikes all enemies in front of her
Burnout: She surrounds herself in flames, which deal magical damage to those who are in its range, and grants bonus movement speed for its duration. Its duration can be extended by continuous use of attacks and abilities on enemies. In dragon form, it is the same but she leaves a trail of scorched ground which will deal damage to those walking on it.
Flame Breath: Your default fireball of the dragon. It leaves a status effect which deals additional damage to enemies hit by it. In dragon from, instead of it travelling in a straight line, it fires in an arc.
Dragon's Descent: This is the ability which allows her to transform into a dragon, activating her passive to double magic resist and armour, and secondary effects of her abilities.
Enlightened Abilities: Shyvana is a shiny level 12 Gabite (type dragon, ground) with the moves tackle, sand attack and dragon rage.
Starter Pokémon: none
Notes/Special Considerations: Should a Jarvan IV apply I would like to work further on perhaps melding their backstory. that's it, though.
SAMPLES
First-Person:
-What do you feel your role in Union is?
I will protect the union. It is my duty.
-What do you seek for humanity’s future?
Perhaps one day pokemon and humans would learn to work together. I do not have many troubles here, and I am fairly sure neither will any of my kin should they choose to join.
-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
It is up to their own strengths to rescue themselves, but if I were near I would aid them.
-What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
Justness and Righteousness. There is nothing more important than honour in a fellow comrade, and neither is there in mercy and kindness where it is due.
-A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
Depending on the situation, if it were an unprovoked attack the human would be at fault and subject to punishment, and the Pokemon defended.
-What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
To defend the Union. It is to them that I owe my life, otherwise I would still be lost in grief.
Third-Person: The dawn has always been one of Shyvana's favourite times of day. The sun sets the world on fire and Shyvana watches the landscape burn into morning. She used to watch the sunrise with her father, who would tell her stories of him and her mother, of before... well, that doesn't matter anymore.
The dawn was nothing to her now though. All it meant was that she had wasted the night getting lost. She curses angrily and starts running north where she is sure the dragon went for cover. Her mission was clear; find the Garchomp that killed her father and kill him.
She knows she should be careful, knows that she should probably take a rest before she passes out from exhaustion (again) but all that she can think of is how this -- this murderer must die. What she doesn't expect is to stumble upon a small camp where she was expecting the Garchomp to be resting. This is nowhere near the city -- what on earth were these people doing?
Of course she had seen humans before, but never up this close and certainly not made conversation with them. Cautiously, she shifts into her human form and approaches the camp. She needs to warn them to get out of the way, this pokemon is dangerous even if mortally injured.
"They're just humans. They're nothing compared to me." she reassures herself before taking a deep breath and stepping into the campsite.
